Confidence in Christ- Day 2

Scripture Reading:

• Philippians 3:12 - Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to

make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own.

• Philippians 3:14 - I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

• Joshua 1:8 - This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it

day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you

will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

Thought:

I have gotten many words of advice in how to improve my disc golf game. Some have been good,

some less so. By far the best advice is that when throwing in a wooded area, once I have decided the best

path to throw, pretend the trees are not there. There is far more space between the trees then the trees

themselves, so if I’m not focused on them, there is a far better chance I will not hit them. This advice has

given me greater confidence in playing in wooded areas.

Paul was able to move forward in confidence, not because of his righteousness, but because Christ

had made Paul His own. Similarly, Joshua was leading Israel into the land the Lord promised originally to

Abraham. Joshua could have confidence because of how the Lord had shown who He was, both in

delivering Israel from slavery in Egypt and in providing for Israel during the 40 years they were in the

wilderness. Part of that confidence was recognizing that it was the Lord, not their own strength, that had

delivered them. The way for Israel to stay within the protection and leading of the Lord was to constantly

meditate on the Book of the Law (the first 5 books of the Bible) so they would know the Lord’s will in how

they should live.

Today, we have graciously received the full Bible, giving us the complete picture of the Lord’s

character in Christ. Just like Joshua, and Paul, we also can have confidence because of who we are in the

Lord. One way we develop that confidence is by regularly medicating on the Bible, which is the Lord’s

revelation of His will of how we are to live. It also shows us who He is, giving us confidence in His ability

to bless us in any place He leads us. With such a great gift, we should cherish it and not take it for granted.

Prayer: Lord, thank-you for giving me the Bible, so I may know Your perfect will for me. I pray that by

Your Holy Spirit I would not only know what You say in the Bible but would be enabled to follow Your will

for me. In Christ’s name I pray. Amen!
