The Reset was Never the Renewal

Colossians 2:16-17 

“Therefore, don’t let anyone judge you in regard to food and drink or in the matter of a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day.These are a shadow of what was to come; the substance is Christ.”  

Thoughts 

The new moon marked the start of a new month—a reset, a fresh beginning. But it was only a shadow. It reminded Israel that God gives new starts, but it couldn’t actually make anyone new. 

Christ is the true reset. 

He doesn’t just wipe the slate clean—He gives you His slate. 

He doesn’t just restart your month—He renews your heart. 

The new moon was the shadow. 

Christ is the new creation. 

Imagine finishing a terrible round—shanked drives, tree hits, missed putts. You grab a fresh scorecard and start a new round. Everything resets. Hope resets. Confidence resets. 

But Christ doesn’t just give you a new scorecard. 

He gives you His score.

What “old scorecard” am I still carrying that Christ has already replaced?

Where do I need to receive Christ’s renewal instead of trying to earn a fresh start? 

Think about these things as we throw to the glory of God. 

Prayer 

Thank you, Father, that you are a God of second chances. You give us new life. That You renew our hearts that we may serve You. Forgive us when we live in a way contrary to the man You made us to be.
