Ecclesiastes 7: 14
Enjoy prosperity while you can,
but when hard times strike, realize that both come from God.
Remember that nothing is certain in this life.
We live in a culture that does not like to accept hard times. In fact, I couldn’t define what that looked like without words like lazy or weak popping into my head before Jesus rescued me. If we learn, work, and practice hard enough can’t we make times good? There are some Proverbs that would make it seem like we can, but here this is in the Bible as well and written by the very same guy. This conveys a truth that we’ve all experienced. Some rounds where you feel dialed wind up with terrible kicks on the slightest misses. Other rounds, shanks wind up looking like genius local lines. Despite our best efforts, we are at the mercy of the wind, the ground, and the chains. No matter how they treat us, our God has authority over all of these things. We may not know how things will go on any given day, but He does and He is loving us through each uncertainty
Reflection questions
-
Why do you think we become frustrated when uncertain things don’t go our way?
-
How can you find contentment with things that are out of your control during your round?
Heavenly Father, you are God of all things. You alone know the full story and we get to experience these glimpses of it with you through the lives you have granted us. Though we may not be able to see how these seemingly random events work together, please make our hearts trust you with each uncertain detail as you continue your wonderful work.
