Throwing to the Glory of God

Throwing to the Glory of God

1Corinthians 10:31-33

31 So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 32 Don’t give offense to Jews or Gentiles[f] or the church of God. 33 I, too, try to please everyone in everything I do. I don’t just do what is best for me; I do what is best for others so that many may be saved.

Doing everything to the glory of God is a motto of the Christian faith. It often carries with it the idea of thanksgiving which is certainly true. Here Paul shows another important piece that can be a little harder to apply day in and day out. Doing everything to the glory of God means putting others above yourself and doing what it best for them instead of what is best personally. In disc golf, there’s nothing wrong with trying to improve or with competing. However, I know when those things lead me to root against my competitor or to set aside caring for others to focus on myself that something has gone wrong. If we’re going to play Disc Golf to the glory of God, we must strive to love our community and cheer harder for our competitors than we do for ourselves. Winning isn’t wrong. By all means, play to the best of your ability. As you do, always remember you are an image bearer of Christ first whose purpose is to glorify God in all things.

Reflection Questions

  1. Can you think of a time where a brother or sister in Christ has put your needs above their own?

  2. How would it look to approach a round focusing on glorifying God by loving your competitors greater than yourself instead of focusing on your own performance?

Father, please use us this day for your Glory. Please take from us selfish desires and fill our hearts with love for those around us that mirrors the love You have for them. May we joyfully seek their good just as you work for our benefit this day.
