Waiting on the Lord…and a submerged disc…
Yesterday on hole 3 at the Long Hollow Church course I threw my favorite driver in this pond.
Not barely in the pond, way short, and not at all close to the bank.
That pond is deep and my 16’ retriever (this is the retriever I needed) wouldn’t even come close to reaching it. Luckily, it’s a lightweight disc, like 138 grams, and it was floating.
I really didn’t want to lose that disc so I thought maybe I’ll find sticks to throw at it or throw the old basketball floating nearby at it or maybe I’ll just wade out there in yucky water and get it and go home.
Then I thought…maybe I should just wait. Maybe I should just keep playing and after the round I’ll come back and see what’s up with it.
So I played holes 4-12 and glanced over to see that now the disc was still afloat and what do you know, it’s about 10 feet off the opposite bank from where I threw it so I grabbed my retriever and ran over and tapped it and pulled it out. Yay!
The very next hole I used that disc to throw a nice soaring hyzer within 15’ of the basket and made a birdie on 13. All was right with the world.😊
Here’s what I learned…again. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is just wait, but it’s often the best thing to do. Especially after I mess up, I want to fix it and fix it fast. And a lot of times that just makes a bigger mess. But very often the best thing to do is just watch and wait and pray and see how it plays out. Just see where the currents of life takes things and look for the Lord in it.
Waiting isn’t the same as doing nothing. It’s simply trusting that the Lord is in the details and exhibiting that faith through waiting and watching and preparing for when he acts.
